As Ken MacLeod wrote, the Singularity seems to be &#8220;the rapture for nerds&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Apropos, a prayer:\n<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>Our <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Posthuman_%28Human_evolution%29\">Posthumanity<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/mindstalk.net\/vinge\/vinge-sing.html\">Singularity<\/a>,<\/dd>\n<dd>hallowed be our science,<\/dd>\n<dd>our <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Omega_Point#Omega_point_as_a_technological_singularity\">omega<\/a> come,<\/dd>\n<dd>our will be done,<\/dd>\n<dd>on earth as in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Noosphere\">noosphere<\/a>.<\/dd>\n<dd>Give us today our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/jstrout\/uploading\/\">uploads<\/a>.<\/dd>\n<dd>Cast off our skins<\/dd>\n<dd>as we see <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Accelerating_change\">accelerating change<\/a>.<\/dd>\n<dd>Save us from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Existential_risk\">existential risks<\/a><\/dd>\n<dd>and deliver us from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sens.org\/\">senescence<\/a>.<\/dd>\n<dd>[For the Singularity, the power, and the glory are ours<\/dd>\n<dd>now and for ever.] Amen.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transhumanists are a fascinating bunch, though I can&#8217;t help but see most of their views as simply a projection of religious longing onto science.
